Preacher Has A Director, Probably

Preached is a beloved, legendary, and utterly insane comic created by Garth Ennis back in the mid 90's.  The story of a supernatural reverend on the road to finding God (literally), we've been hearing rumors of a live action adaptation for years now.  Ennis himself had completed a script draft in 1998, so we've seen an endless list of names attached over the past decade.  But it now looks like the director of I Am Number Four, D.J. Caruso, will be officially directing the long awaited comic book adaptation.

This comes as a slight surprise.  Caruso's name popped up last week, and it seemed like the decision would be based on the performance of his most recent movie, I Am Number Four.  Considering the movie was a critical and commercial disappointment, it's strange timing.  Well, the choice itself strange.  The last director attached to the project was Sam Mendes, a man who can craft strong, emotionally resonant stories.  Caruso's done Two For the Money, Disturbia, Eagle Eye, and now Twilight with Aliens.  And the guys name is D.J.  What's there to be excited about?
