Usually when a show is legitimately great, it will be sucessful. Unless the premise downright weird or strange, I think most quality shows generally get at least some recognition once they hit the air. However, there are two glaring exceptions to this rule in my mind: Arrested Development and Firefly. But while we did have three seasons of AD, we only had one precious year of Firefly. I don't care about Buffy, Firefly is Joss Whedon's best work to date. A strong setting and, more importantly, a wonderfully rich cast made for some damn fine television. And for years, fans have been clinging on to hope that somehow, sometime, the show will return.
And that brings us to the latest attempt by Firefly's legion of fans to revive ill fated program. What sparked this latest rush? Series star Nathan Fillion claimed that if he magically won the lottery, his first matter of business would be to bring back the show and make it himself. In typical fan logic, the Firefly community now thinks that if they were to raise the money, they could somehow make that solution. Here's their website http://helpnathanbuyfirefly.com/
You can also follow the cause on facebook. The group has gone from 40,000 to 60,000 in a matter of hours, which is downright impressive. And you should join. Why? Because this is a crazy awesome show and it deserves to go on, somehow. Now, Joss will probably be too busy to come back to it. He's sort of directing THE AVENGERS!!!!, so he should be too focused on that to continue Firefly. Still, I would happily pay up for a new season of such a great program, and maybe something could come of this latest fan drive. Probably not, but what's the harm in hoping?
